Apple Doesn’t Allow $1,000 App Pricing Anymore

Up until a few days ago, I had thought a developer could choose any price to sell their app on the app store. This is not the case anymore. iTunes Connect, the website tool for iOS developers to prepare their apps for sale on the App Store; gives a free option and 85 tiered sell prices. Where tier 1 is 99 cents and tier 85 is $999.99. In the past, apps like I Am Rich which did nothing and still charged a $1,000 dollars, were taken off the App Store. Apple, since then, has made an effort to ensure that all apps allowed onto the store offer a little value, even if its just a fart noise.

Now, it seems though, Apple is denying the possibility of choosing that high tier pricing; even for Apps that do offer a lot of value. Attached is a screenshot of an app that after moving from the 83 tier to the 85 got the following invalid tier error. If a developer selects the 85 option, the app disappears from the App Store and Apple does not send an email for further discussion. The app will reappear as soon as a lower tier is selected. Why doesn’t Apple just cap it lower, if they aren’t going to all people to sell at that level?

**UPDATE** Apple just added two more tiers, now the top tier is 87.
